If you could do anything you want tomorrow, what would it be?
Submitted by Becca-Pink.
I would have a day of pure indulgence. Wake up without the alarm and bask in the sunlight in my bed for a while. Maybe finish the book waiting on the bedside table. Then a hot shower and jump in my jeans and an old t-shirt, put on my coat (it's a sunny day, but still chilly in the morning) and walk to the café down the street with Mike. French toast, a glass of orange juice, some Earl Grey tea. Sunglasses and grins. Idly decide what to do with the afternoon. It doesn't matter what, just whatever we feel like. Maybe a movie. Maybe go to the river with the dogs. Having the luxury of choice is what matters here. And so the day ambles on, relaxed. Happy.
Is it likely that the U.S. will have a female president in the near future? In your lifetime? Why?
No way. Ain't gonna happen. First diversion from the standard WASP president would've been JFK, right? And that was shocking at the time, having a Catholic president. Nah, it's unlikely Hilary will become Ms. President. The next step is probably a Jewish man. Then an African-American man. Maybe. But they would have to be extremely rich and powerful already. Or a celebrity. And it would help if they were completely white on the inside, despite outward appearances... kinda like Condoleeza (you know it's true).
This question is like asking whether I think it'll snow in Miami in August. You know it's true.
If you could eat anything you wanted, and not have to worry about gaining weight/being unhealthy/inhumane, what would you totally pig out on?

This is a tough one, but the first thing that comes to mind is SUSHI!
But then, I also enjoy all types of breakfast foods. And then there's chocolate.
I think the question needs to be modified to include "don't feel sick after continuously eating" so that I could enjoy unlimited amounts of these foods!
What's in a screen/user name? Tell us how you found yours.

I think I'm one of many that was enchanted by the Elves in The Hobbit and LOTR. So yeah, years ago when the net was still young, Yahoo! was the best search engine, Netscape was the best browser, and ICQ was the way to chat online, I was in search of a user name. Lorien comes from Lothlorien, the homeplace of the Elves and I liked the sound of it. It's weird to think that I've been using it since '97. Yikes! A decade! It's almost as much my name as the ones given to me at birth.
It's strange to think that I'm part of the generation that remembers the world without the internet, but young enough to be able to participate in its growth. I wonder what other changes we'll be witness to, like those who were witness to the birth of the automobile, the television, and plastic.
I mean, really, can anyone imagine our life without plastic?
Let's make a list. What are 20 things in your life that you're grateful for?

Easy, though I think most of this will be a little cliché.
In no particular order:
1. I have full use of my body. I can dance, I can walk, I can see, I can hear, I can smile, I can laugh.
2. The people in my life have their health, too.
3. I found love.
4. My family doesn't hate me.
5. I have a steady job.
6. My job is in my original field of study.
7. I have a roof over my head, food on the table, people to love.
8. I have friends.
9. My dog, who loves me anyway
10. Music
11. Art
12. The trees
13. The oceans
14. The air we breathe.
15. The luxury of laughter.
16. Waking up to Mike's smile and kisses in the morning
17. Coming home to Mike and our dogs, who greet me at the door
18. The sun for shining, the earth for turning, the moon for holding the planet in place
19. Being able to dance.
20. Saying "I love you" and meaning it with all my heart. :)
What TV show(s) will you be watching this season? Why?

Because Doogie Howser is in it and he is LEGENDARY!
Are you a morning person or a night owl?
Depending on how much sleep I get, I can be BOTH! Mostly though, I'm more productive from early afternoon to late in the evening. I'd probably be happier if I could shift my work day forward three hours. That way, I can get errands done in the morning, too.
I do love mornings. My favourite mornings are the weekend ones where I wake up early-ish and laze is bed for a few hours, contemplating the light coming through the window, enjoying the feeling of not having to be anywhere in particular, enjoying the now in as zen-like manner as I can achieve.
Then I get on the net and play. Or I get up and make french toast. Mmmmmmmm... With a hot mug of Earl Grey tea, morning sun in the kitchen, a good book. This is a lovely way to start the day.
But the sun goes down so soon. And then I'm the night owl, blinking wide-eyed at the computer screen, chatting with friends, working on a drawing, playing with the photos I took that day.

What was the highlight of your WINTER?
Say "hey" for us Southern Hemispherists! Woooo! It's finally warming up here in ol' Melbourne town... and in ol' Melbourne town, it's likely to become chilly again tomorrow. We really never know what we're going to get, weather-wise. The week-ahead forecast is highly amusing to me. You'd have better chances of winning the lottery, I reckon, than guessing what the weather is going to be like here in a week.
So yeah, highlight of my winter would have to be meeting van. And it's been a blast ever since. When I think back over all the things we've done, it boggles my mind. And in a couple weeks, we'll be moving in together! Wow.
And now summer is coming. I can drag out the surfboard and finally try to get up on the damn thing this year! Plus, I'm looking forward to wearing singlets and shorts. Break out the thongs (flip flops, ahem) and the beach gear! Yeah!
What do you collect?
I do my best not to collect, but that just conflicts with my pack-rat urges. Still, the urge to be able to walk through my home is even stronger... I say that while I look around my room, filled with old novels and little boxes. Okay, okay, it's hard for me to resist those cute little boxes. I don't know why, but they are just so cute! I used to collect books, but they are way too expensive for me to consume them the way I used to in school. For one thing, I don't have the money. For the other, I don't have the time to read a book a day. Sheesh, no wonder I never did any homework!!
So, in a conscious effort to save money and space, I try to keep my collecting in a virtual dimension. Nowadays, the thing I collect the most is music. New stuff, old stuff, cool stuff, nerdy stuff, I'm a little music whore. :D A lot of music I love for the rhythm, for the way it makes me want to move. Other music is strictly for singing at the top of my lungs in the car (by myself, I don't dare inflict this on innocent lives). But the best music is the music I love for the lyrics and the melody together. When the lyrics work, they evoke a memory or a moment that is deeply personal. (After all, my version may be unique in its detail, but the universal nature of the emotion isn't.) One of my fave examples of this would have to be School Night by Ani Difranco. This song has two parts for me. There's the situation (the narrator is breaking up with someone)
she went over to his apartment
clutching her decision
and he said, did you come here to tell me goodbye?
so she built a skyscraper of procrastination
and then she leaned out the twenty-fifth floor window
of her reply
and she felt like an actress
just reading her lines
when she finally said
yes. it's really goodbye this time
and far below was the blacktop
and the tiny toy cars
and it all fell so fast
and it all fell so far
and then there's a more abstract moment, wondering if there is a way to give love a measurable quantity.
but then what kind of scale
compares the weight of two beauties
the gravity of duties
or the ground speed of joy?
tell me what kind of gauge
can quantify elation?
what kind of equation
could i possibly employ?
So yeah. I like music. A lot. And little boxes. And books.
